Seoul, Soul of Asia

Seoul has been the capital of Korea for about 600 years, since the time of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).
Seoul was referred ti as "Han Yang" during the Joseon Dynasty, however, in 1945, the newly founded Republic of
Korea officially changed its capital city's name to Seoul. Seoul has developed into a bustling metropolis,
action as the hub for political, economic, social, and cultural matters. Seoul has hosted many international
events including: 1998 Olympic Games, 2002 Korea/Japan FIFA World Cup and APEC 2005 Korea
(Economic Leaders' Meeting). The Success of these events has shown people that Korea is
truly an international city. Seoul is the world's 10th-largest city. Its past and present co-exist in a
fascinating way: centuries-old palaces, city gates, shrines, gardens and priceless art collections attest to
the city's illustrious past, while the glistening facades of soaring skyscrapers and the bustling traffic
represent its vibrant present.
